More Practice Scenes

Practicing with movie scenes for clarity and fluency. Tonal Energy, Structural Energy, Linking & Phrasing.

Neutral Vowels & Parent Vowels

We keep the Neutral Vowels very short by playing consonant to consonant, and feeling the difference between these short grunt-like sounds and their larger Parent Vowels.

Structural - Tonal Diphthong #3Y

The diphthong #3Y combines two sounds blended into one. The #3 Structural Vowel plus the Y-buzz Tonal Vowel.

Small Group - Structural Vowels - Word Lists & Sentences

Small group practicing Structural "stretch" vowels, in Word Lists, then in Sentences.

Small Group -- Structural Vowels

Introduction to Structural Vowels #5, #1, #51. Practicing from Word Lists and Sentences, using 3 stages of vocal energy.

Structural Energy Leading - Carrying Over Speech Dynamics into the real world

Reading with the Structural and Tonal vowels leading, then carrying over those speech dynamics into Free Speaking.

Structural Vowels - #3Y #6Y - sentences

These Structural Vowels employ an inverted megaphone "structure" for maximum clarity and projection, followed by a strong tone felt on the gumridge.  They are two-stage vowels, or diphthongs, where you need to feel the second stage strongly.

Private Coaching Session - Speech Training

Typical 75-minute private speech training session (abridged to 24-minutes), demonstrating the range of techniques from Breathing, Yawning, Stretching exercises, into drills for Structural Vowels, into reading text with Tonal and Structural Energies leading, into Consonant Energy leading, into focus on Linking and Phrasing, Tempo-Rhythms, and Intonation, first reading text, then finally the cumulative results--nearly flawless Free Speaking.

Public Speaking - Avoid using a microphone

Whenever possible avoid using a microphone.  Even if it is sitting right there in front of you.  Your natural, unaided voice is a sound that people will be much more responsive to.  We are becoming conditioned now to screening out of electronic voices.

Teacher-Training - Structural Vowels

At SpeechMasters, our teacher-training technique calls on the teacher or his assistant to shoot raw video footage, and upload it to Youtube. We then download, edit, and annotate clips for training purposes.  We set up a video-conferencing meeting with the teacher, and discuss the video footage together--both to address specific issues, and to refine training methodology.  Teachers should then show the lab video to their class, so that they can learn from it directly.

Structural Vowel #5 Small Group (w. Elvis)

Small group learns their first Structural Vowel, #5 AH, getting used to creating a forward placed sound with a large lip opening.  This shape also aids in producing a good R sound in words like: car, far, large, target, etc.

A number system corresponds with lip shapes to form these vowels. #6 is the largest, #1 the smallest, with variations such as #5R, #3R, #51, and #21.
